I have certainly enjoyed some wonderful Valentine's Days. I've also had my share of wanting to hide in a cave until the day passed. So here's my best advice for those who find themselves single this Valentine's Day...
1. Do something that makes you feel loved.
Plan a single ladies' dinner at a local restaurant, indulge in a candlelit bubble bath, book a massage, buy lingerie for you and your future lover and show the Universe you trust your desires will manifest, or curl up with a rom-com to warm your heart and keep your romantic hopes alive.
Go for a run, bike ride, or drive while listening to music. Change your physiological state and it will immediately change how you feel. Catch a man flick. Or buy yourself that watch.
Once upon a break-up when I knew I would soon be single, I gave myself a gift that reminded me that this too shall pass and kept me anticipating the adventure of being single.
2. Do something that makes someone else feel loved.
Valentine's Day isn't just for lovers. Be the cupid and love your loved ones. Or those you have yet to meet. Donate to your favorite charity. One of my happiest days on the planet was a few years back when I decided to put my money where my heart was and made my largest donation to an international grassroots charity. I felt over the moon to know that I was making a real difference in the lives of people who needed it. And it got my mind off of me.
3. Do something to fast track your future.
What needs to happen before you are really ready for the one you dream of to walk into your life? (lose the winter weight? start saving for your fiscal future? get over your ex?) What makes you uneasy about meeting the partner of your dreams right now? Make a list. Today. And then do one thing to clear the way for your desired future.
